Guide School Training

Taking a gap year was a great opportunity for me to travel and discover another lifestyle. I decided to leave France for a few months and go to Canada, more precisely to the Chilcotin Holidays Guest Ranch in British Columbia.

I have been here for almost two weeks, which have been the busiest weeks of my life! In fact, I was one of the seven students of the Horseback Guide School Training. During the first week we learned billions of things about shoeing and packing horses, logging, security procedures in the wilderness, orientation on a map, etc... With the goal to ride on our own all the second week.We left the ranch on Sunday and rode to Leckie Camp which is hidden in a little valley. The life there was so amazing: we rode everyday to different places, admired all mountains, lakes, flowers and wildlife around us. We had to manage ourselves and our daily work to get the chance to enjoy our wilderness lifestyle.

This experience has been challenging for all of us, teachers as well as students, but we were a great team and although we were tired and frozen in the morning there was always laughter in the air. I wanted to live something bigger and now I did. Beyond knowledge about horses, I learned about respect, motivation, perseverance and team spirit. When we arrived at the ranch after the week in the wilderness we were dirty and tired but so happy to be together with our horses, so proud to say "We did it!". I will forever keep the memories of my time in the wilderness and hope to make many more during my time at Chilcotin Holidays this Summer.
